Online store: a friend or an enemy?

Online store: a friend or an enemy?

Throughout the world Internet has revolutionized the way people communicate, look for information and also shop. Online purchases are becoming more and more common among citizens; actually 18% of books, 20% of video games and 15% of CDs are now sold through the Internet. Has Internet really improved life for the consumer? or, on the contrary, is it making us take unnecessary risks?.
No doubt one of the main advantages of buying online is the fact that you do it from home, you sit down in front of your computer and look for any item you want, you can compare the prices on several shops without any commitment or guilt. When you finally find the best price, with only one click you will have your purchase at home in two or three days. However, troubles arise when the items you ordered do not meet the requirements. Then people do not often know where to adress.
Something that usually worries online purchasers is their credit card security, since Internet turns often to be a paradise for swindlers and you need to give your credit card details to buy on the Internet. Nevertheless, safer methods as paypal or Google checkout have been created recently to pay online. By using these methods, you do not have to provide the online shop with the details of your credit card.
On the other hand, purchasing on the Internet does not obviously allow you to try or test the articles; which is, especially for clothes and footwear, a clear drawback. However online shops usually let you change the products without any aditional cost.
In conclusion, as every new technology, online stores may make our lives easier if we use our common sense, as they are very useful for some articles you do not need at the moment and you do not need to check.
